EAR Episode 88: “Evil Avatar Radio’s Christmas Vacation”

Season’s Greetings from all of us at Evil Avatar Radio. This week on the show we try to cover what little news there has been. James tell us of his adventure in the land of PS3 (apparently “fishbang” isn’t as unique a name as James thought), we cover what little we saw of the Duke Nukem teaser, and Crackdown and it’s lack of appearing on anyone’s “Year’s Best” list (except ours).

It’s a shorter episode than usual and it’s all wrapped up in the end with a big red bow of your Holiday Greetings to other members of Evil Avatar.

Also of note is that Evil Avatar Radio is now available on the Zune Marketplace.

EAR Episode 87: “In Case Of Fuck, Break Glass”

The Fruit Fucker strikes again! And does so during one hell of an episode of Evil Avatar Radio. The little bastard struck during our interview with Kristin Lindsay from Penny Arcade while talking to her about Child’s Play. The conversation stops quite abruptly and then a technical glitch happens to our microphones. It’s a little annoying, but it doesn’t last the rest of the show. Sorry about that, folks.

While this isn’t our Christmas show, it might as well have been for everything that took place. Hell, within the first 30 minutes 2 people on the show announce their engagement, and another gets a PS3. Not only that but Kristin tells us about some of the really cool things that were a part of the silent auction at the Child’s Play charity dinner, and then we get Rick Roll’d, live on the air. And no, I’m not linking that.

Once we’re off the air, we Rick Roll ourselves for a bit and then look to you for suggestions of a year end wrap-up. We’re making lists, and we could use your ideas on what kind of categories we should have. Got any? Email us.

EAR Episode 86: “I Eat Better Than You”

While it may have been a thin week for news, it doesn’t stop us from filling in two hours of information (even if that does include our…eating habits, as it were). We answered your emails and talked about Blizzavision, GTA4, the games we played over the weekend and the game(s) we have to look forward to from the week ahead (Burnout Paradise demo FTW).

On the subject of the show that follows the show, or extra content consists of an in-depth talk about what it means when you mix something like MTV and cable TV with something like the video game industry. And we don’t even mention G4.

EAR Episode 85: “The One With Xbox Live’s Major Nelson”

It won’t take you long to realize what you are listening to during the opening of tonight’s show. It’s Jeff Gerstmann’s video review of Kane & Lynch. But it’s really not about the game as it is about the reviewer and the future of his former employer. With that, we jump right into the show and from there we go on to talk about our feelings on the situation and how a place can recover after this sort of thing. Even Larry Hryb, Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, chimes in with his thoughts on the situation. He also answers, as best he can, your questions…even the Tootsie Pop and Klondike ones.

That voice you hear after the show belongs to Hawggy. You’ve most likely seen him in the chat room on show nights or possibly played with him some in CoD4. He’s the reason you hear this show at all after we broadcast live. Thanks Kevin.

EAR Episode 84: “The MotherBAP”

Most of the time we come here and write about the show and what took place during the broadcast. But there is very little you need to know concerning this episode with the exception of 3 things:

1. A Nightelf Mohawk

2. Child’s Play

3. Evil Avatar Child’s Play Charity Drive

Sure, the show had other moments within it. We spoke of playing Rock Band and our time spent with Assassin’s Creed and Mass Effect, but seriously, you only really need to direct your attention to Child’s Play. We’re well on our way to becoming a Gold sponsor and having our logo sitting amongst names like Valve & Microsoft. Achievement unlocked, indeed.

Now maybe you are thinking you heard the show live and all of this is repetitive to you, but it isn’t. There’s new content for you to enjoy. Talk of Deus Ex 3 and Warren Spectre, working for a game store, and game collecting all collide to wrap up Episode 84 of Evil Avatar Radio.

EAR Episode 83: “This Is The Easiest Interview Ever”

Are you enjoying that Evil Avatar Gamerpic? We are too. And while we do go over some of the bigger news stories of the week, there was no doubt among us that the biggest of news stories this week was not the announcement of a Ghostbusters game, nor the release of Mass Effect – it was, in fact, the Evil Eye to display on our gamercard.

That wasn’t all we talked about though. We talked about our experiences with the new releases of last week. Assassin’s Creed was more than we’d hoped for, Super Mario Galaxy is everything we hoped it would be, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is the best we’ve seen (and hoped for) on the PS3.

Speaking of Uncharted, we spoke with two guys from Naughty Dog. Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann join us to hear your praise of their game and answer your questions as well.

Finally, we end the show with…even more show. Come on, you didn’t think we’d go without mentioning COD4, did you?

EAR Episode 82: “Well Then You Should Go Hire John Williams Goddammit!”

The title of this episode is a line that, originally in the broadcast that aired, was dumped. However, due to having the interview with Jesper Kyd (composer of the Hitman series, Freedom Fighters, Kane & Lynch, and Assassin’s Creed) pre-recorded, the line is now back for the podcast. It may seem strange to hear us react as though we dumped it, but well, now you know. And knowing, as they say, is half the something or another. Along with the interview, we also cover the releases of the week (yeah, there’s a lot), COD4, Kane & Lynch (of which T-Shirts were given away), and you’ll witness first hand fishbang’s ability to read reviews of Assassin’s Creed before they are even published and without having played the game itself.

EAR Episode 81: “It’s Hard To Wake Up Everyday Knowing I’m This Awesome”

I know it will be tough, but if you can tear yourself away from Call Of Duty 4 for just a moment, you might find some interesting discussion going on in this episode of Evil Avatar Radio. Even more interesting is the interview we had with Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, who answered the questions YOU asked! And even some you didn’t. There’s no lack of talk surrounding Call Of Duty 4 here, and if you’re still on the fence, this show might just sway you to the COD side of things as you hear us chomping at the bit to end our broadcast, if only so we can get home to play the game ourselves. Hell, we didn’t even stay very long after the show because of that reason.

EAR Episode 80: “Get Off My Lawn!”

In any given week there’s a good chance that Sony will be hoisted by their own petard, or will, at the very least, be subject to lengthy discussion of their shortcomings. We feel for them now and wish them the best, but we’ll be damned if we pass up a chance to take a swing or two ourselves. We’ve got a radio show to run here.

As if on cue, Brian Shiau and Jesse Divnich stop by to tell us how we can put our (virtual) money where our mouths are by participating at The simExchange. If you think your armchair analysis of the games industry is up to par with the professionals, this is your chance to make that clear. It’s free to play, and may prove to be an invaluable tool for aggregating the instincts of the enthusiast community.

We also stand amazed at the endless stream of content being added to SSB Brawl, cower in fear of the November release lists, and find out it’s possible to be on completely different sides of the piracy issue without having a meltdown. It’s an episode full of startling discoveries that must be heard to be believed!

EAR Episode 79: “I Taste Something I Don’t Like”

Evidently it’s not out of the question that a senior producer of one of Sony’s most creative titles would disregard the wildfires of southern California to spread the gospel of The Eye of Judgment on the air. Well, we doubt there was any actual disregarding, but however difficult the circumstances, we really appreciate Felice Standifer’s appearance in this episode and can’t wait to have some real playtime with this charming new addiction interface.

We’d also like to point out that there was far more news of interest this week than anticipated, so we were all sad examples of concentration and self-control. Of course this could be due in large part to the cake we were forced to stare at throughout the broadcast. Listen and decide for yourself. And stay tuned for the brandy and cigars after-show where we sandbag our wobbly opinions on the subject of unified console architecture. And coconut.

EAR Episode 78: If At First You Don’t Succeed, You Fail

What more proof do you need that the cake is a lie than to hear directly from GLaDOS herself? Ellen McLain, the voice of our new favorite rampant AI (and joined by husband John Patrick Lowrie – himself a noteworthy voice in the Half Life series), talks to EAR about finding her way into the head of a passive-aggressive, dominating construct. We’re also joined by Jonathan Coulton, geek-folk artist extraordinaire, and composer of Portal’s inimitable credit-sequence ballad. If you’ve had any exposure to Portal then you know what a treat this is. And speaking of treats, stay tuned as we take our first run at an uncensored after-show discussion.

EAR Episode 77: Spoiler Alert

Welcome to the first ever “Episode 77” of Evil Avatar Radio. In this week’s episode we talk about how we finished the fight (on Legendary & got the skulls) and we discuss further the ending of Halo 3 and a few of the final levels in the game. Fair warning, there will be spoilers, so keep that in mind when we go into our second hour. (Spoilers between 57:30 and 1:22:44)
On the non-spoiler side of things, we talk about Rocket Race, The Orange Box and all that includes (mainly TF2 and the roads that split into the 360 and PC paths), the releases of the week, COD4 withdrawals, the best stickie along with the best suicide in Halo 3, the 40GB PS3, the Bungie/Microsoft…situation, and controller frustrat….wait a minute.

Okay, this segment on controller frustration is something I never saw coming. First, fishbang tells us of when he got so angry, he took his controller outside and shot it. With a gun. As much as I was surprised by that, he then went on to tell us that it’s got nothing on what an old friend of his did. You might be curious as to what that was, but you’ll have to listen to find out. Even more so, the “old friend” calls into the show and tells us of his experience in what he did.

We get phone calls this week from Rogue_hunter (TF2), Ghostbear1 (Halo 3’s ending), and BAPenguin (Folklore).

All that and more in this exciting spoiler-filled episode.

EAR Episode 76: Eternal F.E.A.R. of the Condemned Resident on the Silent Hill of the Fatal Phantasmagoria in Ravenholm

A week out from Halo 3’s release and we’re back with even more Halo talk along with our goodbye’s to the CoD4 Multiplayer Beta.

Welcome to Evil Avatar Radio: Version 76. It’s October and we talk of plenty of things. Here’s a rundown of what’s mentioned: Tetris Splash, my big ass TV, Halo 3 & Your Friend’s List (there’s always that one guy playing something else), the Wild Wild West monster (our progress in Halo 3), skull collecting, terminal activating, Halo 3: Double Dash, Death & The High Cost Of Playing On Legendary, Zombie Game Mode, Halo 3 and the “Not Quite Ready For HD Playing”, mikeohara calls in from the middle of nowhere (remember Mike, you can’t say THAT on the radio), Rock Band pricing, PS3’s new SKU (a rumor a day…), Burnout Paradise (I think I mention this once per show at least), October = Spooky (that, or I’m just a big sissy), fatefodder calls in to talk about Fatal Frame (Yes, I picked a game to talk about that I have never played), we realize we have to get a webcam for the show, and we also discuss EVERY game (and more) mentioned in the title of this episode.

EAR Episode 75: “I get to blow s*** up all day”

It’s Halo eve…what is SantaBap bringing you? For us he brings first-hand accounts of the Halo 3 launch in Seattle, and he’s not the only one. Reports come in from all points about the fever pitch and the midnight release while we talk our way through the story, gameplay and history of Halo. We’re also paid a surprise visit by Steve Scott, Bungie’s chief pyrotechnician, who suggests we keep a weather eye out for his favoritest explosion in the game.

This one’s rated T for Teen, folks, as your experience may change during online play. Err, listening.

EAR Episode 74: Games – And The Women That Love Them

A week before Halo and all through the threads, people were scared of massive spoilers ahead.

I can’t rhyme for shit, however, I can tell you about all the cool things happening on tonight’s episode of Evil Avatar Radio. We’ve got everything you need to cure a dull Monday night. We’ll talk about the games we played this weekend, or maybe just the game for those of you with COD4 Betas. Plus, we’ll get a visit from Santa Bap as he calls in to tell us of some Halo 3 contests that will begin this week. Major details to be revealed indeed.

Also tonight, our main theme of the show will be focused on women in the gaming industry as well as women gamers. First up will be Evil Avatar’s own thaGirl (Anjanette) and joyebean (Joye), both of whom work for Amaze Entertainment and have plenty to talk about as far as how they got where they are now and what it took to get there.

As always, thanks for listening.
